Sexing newborn kits is possible, but takes a good bit of experience and practice. By about the age of four to six weeks, however, we should be able to tell with fair certainty the difference between little bucks and does. Grasp the little guy by wrapping your hand over its head and shoulders. Apply light pressure with your thumb and index finger on either side of its jaws and gently turn it over. With the bunny now facing you belly-side up, use your free hand to check the vent area. The anus is the doughnut-shaped hole directly in front of the tail. The genital or "vent" area is just above that.

| With your thumb on the base of the tail and your finger just above the vent area, gently press and stretch the area. If the genital space looks like a circle, it's a buck. If it looks like a slit, it's a doe. As a buck gets older, the scrotal sacs will be apparent on either side, just by the tail. It's a good idea to sex the youngsters again at six weeks, then eight weeks, as mistakes can be made. More than one little doe has turned into a little buck, even with experienced breeders!
